Healthy and ethical eating

Healthy eating. But what exactly does that mean?
Eating: is a practice we do every day several times a day throughout our lives.

Now let’s define healthy: it means — quote from the dictionary — “In an active sense, capable of producing health benefit.”

So, when we say we want to eat healthy, we want to do ourselves good, to feel better, to heal from small or large ailments, or at least to help our bodies get it back into balance.

This already seems to me to be a very good answer to the initial question of why to eat healthy.
But let’s look at what it means to eat ethically. Ethical eating involves an awareness, an awareness about the food we eat. Every food choice has a positive or negative consequence on the environment and the body.

But let’s take a step back : once upon a time, the rural economy involved small-scale production tied to the individual farm. Simply put : each family had its own vegetable garden, a few chickens, a pig if it was okay, to cover the family’s needs.

Industrial revolution and consequent depopulation of the countryside gradually led to the intensive livestock farms that we know well. Thus surplus meat and fish production resulting in pollution of water resources, reckless exploitation of the seas, and extinctions of many animal species.

Intensive farming also leaves its mark in terms of deforestation and pollution.

Can anything be done?

The Answer is YES!

Let us assume that being 100% consistent and ethical is impossible. However, in our own small way, we can do a lot by starting right from awareness of what we eat. Ethical choices often coincide with a healthy eating style!

We choose foods that are in season: as much as possible from 0 km and if possible without pesticides, this guarantees us products grown in the period most suitable for their ripening. From the nutritional profile they will be at their best. Growing without pesticides avoids polluting our bodies already challenged by air pollution. Km 0 (Local cooperatives for example, small growers) avoids long wheeled transports resulting in a reduction of air pollution and promotes the local economy.

Reduce meat and fish: if you really don’t feel like eliminating animal products from your diet, reducing your consumption to once a week (once a month would be ideal) allows your body to reduce inflammation due to the excess of these foods (especially meat)and choosing small farmers who treat animals the best and feed them with good quality food will ensure that intensive livestock farms, which are very harmful to the environment and the poor animals, are reduced.

Let's vary the food we eat as much as possible!

Nature gives us so many wonderful products, let’s not get stuck on the usual three varieties of vegetables or fruits. Let’s experiment!

The wonder of vegromages lies in the fact that they are made with just a few ingredients that are easy to find and really good for your health. 

The Basis of Vegromages: Vegromages are made from the oilseeds (almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts) that are rich in vitamins (Group B and Vitamin E), minerals (selenium, potassium, zinc, magnesium, manganese and copper), omega 6 and 9 fatty acids, fiber. 

They are rich in antioxidants that fight free radicals, are an excellent source of protein, while being high in fat, are cholesterol-free, in fact, they help keep cholesterol levels down while protecting arteries from atherosclerosis.

They are rich in fiber which makes them digestible, perfect for good intestinal function and maintaining good insulin response in diabetics.

The Ferments: the Vegromages are fermented with probiotics of the Lactobacillus Acidophilus type. We chose them vegan so that they can work for everyone. Probiotics are supplements based on “physiological bacteria” naturally present in the gut. The job of probiotics is to defend the intestinal mucosa, produce vitamins and optimize colon function.
